On the Barcelona track, the MMR team concluded the first five rounds of the FIM Junior Gp Moto 2 season before the break.

Time to rest and get back to work ahead of the season finale for the MMR staff, fresh from a scorching weekend in Barcelona at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Niccolò Antonelli, Mattia Volpi and Maxwell Toth defended the team colours as always with good progress between qualifying and the race.

Massimiliano Morlacchi’s racing team started their weekend as usual from the free practice sessions, looking for the best solutions for all three riders. Remarkable times for the three MMR flag bearers, especially for Antonelli who once again showed great feeling with the bike on the dry lap.

Between qualifying one and qualifying two, the #23 rider in fact set his best lap times, scoring a combined second place on the grid (1.44.511), also valid for the start from the front row. A great qualifying that of Nicco’s that adds to the others completed over the previous weekends.

Similar and almost combined lap times for Mattia Volpi and Maxwell Toth with the best lap recorded by both in the last session on Saturday. Fifteenth place on the starting grid for Mattia and sixteenth for Max.

When the lights went out for Race 1, Antonelli’s start was not easy and he was forced to battle immediately after the melee at turn one. The good race pace then led the Italian driver to recover lap after lap, bringing himself close to the fight for the top five before having to close his race prematurely due to a crash.

Mattia Volpi’s regularity and lucidity were great, even though he started from the group, in setting his fastest laps recovering positions lap after lap, especially in the last part of the race with the decisive overtaking for the final P12.

A hard-fought race also by the American Max Toth in his teammate’s slipstream for almost the entire race and author of good fights with his rivals. Fifteenth at the finish.

The second race of the weekend saw another good performance from Niccolò Antonelli in the early stages of the race and the first few laps after the start. Niccolò had an effective pace between fourth and sixth place before being forced to return to the pits for a retirement. Unlucky weekend that in any case does not erase the good feelings and the excellent double qualifying session.

MMR colours defended by Mattia Volpi who, as in Race 1, showed his continuity along the Barcelona track, never easy to interpret. Many overtakes completed by Mattia, protagonist of the final exploit with the tenth place achieved under the chequered flag and therefore the top ten of the race.

There was a bitter fate for Max Toth, who also got off to a steady start and started towards a race in battle, but was subsequently held up by retirement.

The MMR team would like to thank all its staff, the drivers for their commitment on the track, the technical partners and all sponsors. Appointment with the FIM Junior GP Moto 2 at the weekend of 7 and 8 October at the Aragon circuit for the penultimate round of the season.
